Mercury Pours New Sash Into Range
There’s a new aluminium vertical sliding sash window system from Smart VS400. Specialist sash window fabricator Mercury Glazing has already poured it into its portfolio.
The new VS400 has been added to Mercury’s Smart VS600 aluminium range that sits alongside a PVC-U vertical slider range. This clearly extends the choice available to customers across heritage, refurbishment, residential and commercial applications from the fabricator which is based in historic Gloucester and delivers for project all around the UK.
Mercury has been manufacturing vertical sliding sash windows since 2002 and is one of a few specialist fabricators with extensive manufacturing expertise across both PVC-U and aluminium vertical sliders.
Natural addition
Martin Halford, the company’s MD, said: “Vertical sliders have been at the heart of Mercury for more than two decades, so the VS400 is a natural addition to our portfolio. It builds on our specialist sash window expertise while giving customers another aluminium window solution for a wide range of applications.”
Designed to replicate the character of a traditional sash window, the thermally broken VS400 combines classic looks with the strength, durability and low-maintenance advantages of aluminium.
Traditional joints
The VS400 features mitred and crimped sash joints for a traditional jointed appearance, with optional sash horns available to further replicate the character of a traditional sash window.
Commercial as well as domestic
Available in either slide-only or tilt-and-slide configurations, its flush opening has no projection into or out of the building, making it particularly practical for schools, hospitals and other high-occupancy buildings, as well as domestic and heritage projects.
On tilt-and-slide configurations, the tilt-in facility allows the external glass to be cleaned safely from inside the building.
Thermal efficiency
The VS400 accommodates 24mm, 28mm, 32mm and 36mm sealed glazing units and can achieve overall U-values of 1.4 W/m²K with a 1.0 W/m²K centre pane and 1.0 W/m²K with a 0.5 W/m²K centre pane. It can be manufactured up to 1600mm wide and 2800mm high, subject to configuration, with a maximum sash weight of 50kg.
Smart’s Quick Glaze Bead supports faster installation.
Support for installers
Halford said: “Our experience means we understand the look, performance and practical considerations that can determine the right vertical slider for a particular project. With specialist solutions across both PVC-U and aluminium, we can help customers access more opportunities and provide the fabrication expertise and support they need.”
